Ebad Jahangir
Honorary Research Professor
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Dr. Ebad Jahangir is an Honorary Research Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Connecticut and an Associate Director in the Systems Department of United Technologies Research Center. In his more than 25 years career in aerospace industry, he has led traditional systems engineering as well as model based systems engineering efforts. His professional career has been marked by working at the interfaces of industry, academia and government. He completed a B.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park and an M.S. and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, all in aerospace engineering. He later returned to education in MIT Sloan School of Management to receive a Master’s degree in Systems Design & Management. He has to his credit numerous engineering and technical strategy papers and presentations. In addition to being an Associate Fellow of AIAA, he is an active member of INCOSE and a part of several other professional organizations in the general aerospace area and a member of several committees specifically addressing aviation systems issues.
Systems Engineering Focus
Key Active Research Projects
- Model Based Systems Engineering to define requirements and develop architectures in aerospace systems such as turbofan engines and aircraft subsystems.
- Exploring principles and “form” of systems thinking and how it is balanced against systems management.
- Development of competency frameworks to structure development and training of systems engineers.
Future Directions
- Using model based systems engineering tools and methods in non-traditional areas such as health care, energy systems, natural systems, and organizational development.
- Understanding of and ability to use “systems thinking” approaches to better explore complexity especially in cross-disciplinary systems.
Key Skills/Capabilities
- Research Specialties: Propulsion Systems, Requirements Definition and Management, Systems Architecture, Systems Engineering Tools and Methods, Aviation Environmental Issues
- Integration of modeling and simulation capabilities using various platforms employing SysML
